Knife man told wife to ‘end his life now’

A DISTRAUGHT husband grabbed his wife by the hair, held a knife up to her and told her to “end his life”.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Archibald Drummond’s actions took place moments after his wife Jacqueline had told him she did not love him anymore.

The court heard Archibald, 55, and Jacqueline, 54, had been together since the age of 16 and have five children.

Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson said their relationship had been strained for some time before the incident, on October 30 last year.

The fiscal said: “The complainer and the accused had an argument during which the complainer said she wished to terminate the relationship.

“During the argument the complainer said she did not love the accused anymore.

“He got up and walked towards her. He grabbed her by the hair and held a small kitchen knife towards her. He invited her to end his life right now.”

She screamed and one of their daughters ran downstairs and saw her dad holding her mum by the chest and holding a knife towards her.

Drummond shut the door but the daughter opened it again and saw her dad holding her mum by the chin, still with the knife towards her.

The fiscal said: “The daughter shouted at her father to let go and he did. He apologised to the daughter, said he was going to the police and left the locus.”

Drummond then attended at Lochee police station and told police he had assaulted his wife at their home on Cedarwood Drive.

He told them: “My life’s over. I can’t face her again after what I’ve done – I nearly hurt her.

“I think I punched her but there was a knife. I picked up a knife, then her eye was bleeding. My daughter saw me. I think that’s what stopped it.”

Paramedics attended at their home address and Mrs Drummond was found to have a cut above her eye which was cleaned but needed no further treatment.

Drummond, now of Ravenscraig Road, admitted assaulting Mrs Drummond by grabbing her by the hair, seizing her by the chin, presenting a knife at her and striking her on the head to her injury, on October 30 last year.

Sentence was deferred until October 10 for reports.
