Man on drugs seen collecting branches from garden

A MAN was so out of it on drugs he was found in a Dundee garden collecting branches.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard John Stewart, 38, was seen to break branches off a bush and put them in his pocket.

Stewart, of Arklay Terrace, was asked to leave the private garden, which is on Forfar Road, by a neighbour.

As he left he then approached a car full of people and opened a car door and tried to get in.

When asked what he was doing, Stewart apologised then went round to the back of the car and opened another door and got inside.

Fiscal depute Muhammad Sadiq told the court Stewart was first spotted in the garden at 5.15pm on February 12 by a neighbour.

The fiscal continued: “The accused stayed in the garden area for a while before approaching a car.

“Police officers were called and when they attended Stewart told them ‘I don’t know anything about it’.”

Solicitor Jim Laverty, defending, said: “His behaviour on that day was bizarre to say the least.

“He had been receiving medical treatment from his GP but his pain was such that he was self-medicating with diazepam.

“After taking diazepam he was then seen in someone’s garden and appeared to be breaking branches off a bush and putting them in his pocket.

“He was then seen peering in a window.”

Mr Laverty said Stewart left the garden but on seeing people within a car, he then opened the car door and tried to get in.

He said “He was asked what he was doing and apologised.

“He then went to the other side of the car and opened a back passenger door and got into the car.

“He appreciates this would have been a frightening experience to the people of Forfar Road.”

Stewart admitted that on February 12 he was found in the grounds of a property on Forfar Road, without lawful authority to be there, inferring that he intended to commit theft there.

Sentence was deferred until June 30.
