A 36-year-old man with more than 100 previous convictions threatened to kill security staff at a city shopping centre.
Ziggy Christie, of Transform, Soapwork Lane, had sentence deferred at Dundee Sheriff Court.
He admitted a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Christie committed the offence by shouting, swearing, and uttering threats of violence, at Wellgate Centre, on December 17.
Fiscal depute Trina Sinclair told the court that the incident took place at 3.30pm.
She said: “The accused was under the influence of alcohol.
“He was asked to leave, as he is banned from the Wellgate Centre and he began shouting.”
Christie swore, shouted abusive comments, and made threats to “kill” centre security staff. Police were contacted, and when officers arrived, Christie told them: “I wasn’t serious.”
Addressing Sheriff Elizabeth Munro, solicitor Jack Brown said: “Your ladyship has not seen Mr Christie in some time but that is not because he has not been offending.
“It’s because he’s been in custody.
“His last three convictions took him well over the 100 mark.
“He’s been in prison a long time for them.”
Mr Brown said that as soon as Christie is released from prison he quickly falls back into the pattern of offending and “makes a nuisance” of himself.
He added: “He is not physically the man he used to be. His offending and lifestyle has taken its toll on him and he has become very ill.
“He doesn’t take drugs anymore but his problem is now alcohol.
“He has no recollection of the incident.”
Sentence was deferred until April 1 for reports.
A spokesman for the Wellgate Centre said: “We wouldn’t comment on this matter individually.
“However, these things do happen and people from time to time come into the Wellgate Centre who don’t behave themselves.
“It’s the same at other places. As with other shopping centres, people occasionally act abusively.
“Our staff always follow procedure and, in this case, police were called and dealt with the matter.”
