A 30-year-old man, who embezzled £2,500 from the Marks and Spencer store he was employed at, has been ordered to pay compensation.
Arran Hill, of Craigmount Road, was ordered to pay back £2,500 after admitting one charge of embezzlement at Dundee Sheriff Court. Hill was also ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work in the community.
He admitted embezzling the money while he was employed at Marks and Spencer, Murraygate, between June 1 and July 7, both last year.
Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin said: “He was employed as a sales assistant and it was noticed that money was going missing from the tills.
“CCTV was reviewed and the accused could be seen taking money out of the till in sums of £100, £250, totalling £2,500.”
The fiscal highlighted that, given the short period of time Hill worked there, the offence was occurring nearly every day.
When questioned by police, Hill could not give a reason as to why he was taking the money.
Sheriff Tom Hughes told him: “I can deal with this case by a non-custodial sentence — but that’s only by the skin of your teeth.”
