A convicted rapist who held a knife to his neck and threatened to “cut out” his own throat in front of police officers has been given a jail sentence.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard George Cameron, 36, made the threat at his home on Craigmount Place after police arrived in relation to a breach of court order.
Cameron was subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order at the time which placed a number of restrictions on his behaviour.
One of these restrictions was that he was required to declare any friendships or social relationships with any female.
Fiscal depute Vicki Bell told the court Cameron had a number of previous convictions, including causing death by reckless driving, rape, and attempted murder.
She said social services had become aware of a friendship with a woman he had formed which he had not disclosed.
Calls logged on Cameron’s phone showed he had phoned her 16 times between July 31 and August 5 and had exchanged 10 text messages on August 5.
On August 5, two detective constables went to Cameron’s home and began to explain the circumstances to him.
The fiscal said: “At this point the accused stated, ‘I know what you are talking about and I have never breached my order’.
“The accused stood up and reached to the side of his chair and picked up a large, black-handled kitchen knife.
“He shouted, ‘I’m not going back to jail. Get out of my house’.”
Cameron walked towards the officers with the knife at his own throat and continued to shout at them.
The officers left the flat and called for assistance.
Cameron could be heard shouting, banging doors and smashing items, whilst repeatedly threatening to kill himself and crying.
At 5.25pm he opened the door to an officer with two knives in his hands and eventually agreed to put them down.
Solicitor Jim Laverty, defending, said: “He had not sought out a social relationship with her, it came as a bolt on to his friendship with her partner.”
Cameron, a prisoner of Perth, admitted breaching an SOPO between May 5 and August 5, at Craigmount Place and elsewhere. He further admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Sheriff Carmichael jailed Cameron for 41 weeks.
