Pair threatened to cut out man’s eye during brutal Dundee robbery

TWO thugs were today convicted of threatening to cut out a man’s eye and chop off his finger during a brutal robbery.

Dale Reidie and Mark Nelson attacked Graeme Rankin at an address in Dundee’s Seafield Road.

They went there in a bid to steal items including cash and a mobile phone battery.

The pair grabbed him, pushed him on to a bed and repeately punched and kicked him before choking him.

They then presented a “sharp instrument” at him and threatened to cut out his eye.

A trial at Dundee Sheriff Court heard they then searched through his property  before overturning furniture and ordering him into the living room.

There the pair pushed Mr Rankin on to a settee, presented a pair of wire cutters at him and threaten to cut off a finger.

The pair then jumped on him – overturning the settee.

Reidie, 34, of Spey Drive, Dundee, and Nelson, 35, of Crichton Street, Dundee, were convicted of a charge of assaulting Mr Rankin to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement and robbing him of a quantity of diazepam, a mobile phone battery and cash.

The attack took place on November 22 2013.

Sheriff Alistair Carmichael deferred sentence until next month for social work background reports.

The pair were released on bail meantime.
