Thug jailed for serious assault on Dundee man

A 37-year-old thug was jailed at Dundee Sheriff Court for stamping on another man’s head in a serious assault.

Barry Cord, of Peddie Street, was told by the sheriff he was “fortunate” not to have killed or permanently injured the man he attacked.

Cord admitted that, on June 12, last year, at Peddie Street, he assaulted James Forbes.

The charge stated he repeatedly punched his victim on the head and repeatedly pulled him by the hair, causing him to fall to the ground.

Cord then repeatedly struck Mr Forbes’s head on the ground.

He then repeatedly kicked him on the head and body and repeatedly stamped on his head, to his injury, the court was told.

Sheriff Alastair Brown said: “You punched him repeatedly on the body and then repeatedly stamped on his head.

“Stamping on somebody’s head is a very, very dangerous thing to do.

“It can be fatal or it can cause permanent injury .

“You are fortunate you didn’t do either of those things.

“I recognise that you have not been in trouble for a long time.

“I also recognise that you are appalled at your own offence.

“But you will go to prison.”

The court also heard the attack on Forbes appeared to have been unprovoked.

No clear motive behind the assault had been established.

Cord was jailed for a total of four years.
