A Dundee man was placed on the sex offender’s register after the “remains” of his stash of child abuse images were found on his computer.
Ian Hunter was detained by police after dozens of images and videos were found on his computer at an address in Dundee.
Fiscal depute Nicola Gillespie told Dundee Sheriff Court: “There were 50 still images and ten videos.
“In total, 48 of those still images were at the lowest level of categorisation.
“Five of the videos were also at that level. He has no previous convictions.”
Hunter, 59, of Bright Street, Dundee, pleaded guilty on indictment to taking or making indecent photographs of children between September 19 2011 and April 9 2014 at an address in Prieston Road.
Defence solicitor Jim Caird said: “These were vestigial files – they had all been deleted.”
Sheriff Alistair Brown placed Hunter on a community payback order with one year’s supervision.
He also added Hunter’s name to the sex offender’s register for one year.
The sheriff said: “I’m accepting that the number of images found was very small as these things go.
“And I’m hearing it said that these were viewed then deleted – essentially they were the remains of the images.
“Nevertheless this is an offence that makes you subject to the notification requirements of the sex offender’s register.”
