Three people are set to stand trial over an alleged conspiracy to set fire to a car believed to be owned by a Dundee police officer.
William Handy, Craig Guest and Lynsey Geekie are alleged to have poured petrol on a car believed to be owned by PC David Farr and ignited it, damaging the vehicle, at a driveway in Ballumbie, Dundee, on June 23 last year.
Handy is accused of having conspired with Guest and Geekie to commit the crime, between May 13 and June 23 2014.
It’s alleged the trio communicated by means of telephone calls, text messages and other electronic messaging services; planned a false alibi and discussed monetary payment for the performance of certain acts; searched the internet for details of the home addresses of PC Farr and PC Ross Clark; visited the street in which PC Farr resided and drove past the police compound at Downfield Police Station.
The charge states that this happened after Handy had been stopped on May 13 2014 by PC Farr and PC Clark on the A90 near Inchture for alleged road traffic offences, and having been questioned by PC Farr on June 19, 2014 at Downfield Police Station.
And it’s claimed that, having allegedly committed both crimes libelled, Guest and Handy — in the two days following the alleged fire — instructed staff at the O2 shop in the Overgate centre to remove data from their mobile phone and transfer data from one phone to another, and purchased a mobile and sim card.
It’s claimed they did so in an attempt to conceal their involvement in the two alleged crimes libelled and to avoid detection, arrest and prosecution in an attempt to defeat the course of justice and attempt to defeat the ends of justice.
The three are further accused of, between February 13 and February 22 last year, conspiring to wilfully set fire to a vehicle within the premises of NCR at Discovery Centre, Fulton Road, Dundee.
Handy and Guest are then accused of, having allegedly committed that crime, instructing the removal of data from their mobile phone and removing data from their phone, to conceal their involvement and avoid arrest and prosecution.
Guest, 31, of Nelson Street, Dundee; Geekie, 31, of Muirton Road, Dundee; and Handy, 53, of Middlebank Holding, Errol, denied all the charges at Glasgow High Court.
Trial was set for February 29 2016 at Aberdeen High Court.
