A woman was left with permanent double and blurred vision after a man punched her outside a pub.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard Katrian Juckiewicz also needed surgery and a metal plate inserted in to her face after it was fractured in two places.
The court heard Mark Deasley, 26, of Westcroft Road, punched Ms Juckiewicz twice in the face when she got caught up in the middle of a fight between him and another man.
Ms Juckiewicz had tried to separate Deasley and Liam Carlisle – a work colleague of her father’s – as they started to struggle outside Ferraris pub, Ogilvie Street, on September 5 last year.
Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson said: “At this point the accused punched the complainer, who was in the middle of the fracas, twice in the face.
“The complainer immediately felt that she was bleeding. She put her hand up to her face and felt the blood. The accused then ran away and down Ogilvie Street.”
Ms Juckiewicz attended Ninewells Hospital and received treatment to two fractures and facial bruising and stitches to a cut at her eyebrow.
She also underwent facial reconstructive surgery involving the insertion of a metal plate.
The court heard that she still suffers from both double and blurred vision, which she has been told is most likely to be permanent, and pain in her eye.
She is on prescribed painkillers and also has to wear specialised glasses and use eye drops due to the damage caused to her tear glands.
Ms Juckiewicz reported the assault to police after she was released from hospital. Deasley was traced by officers on September 9, four days after the incident, and detained.
During police interview he said: “I don’t know if I hit her accidentally or on purpose. I was fighting with another boy first.”
Solicitor Jack Brown, defending, said: “The complainer was effectively caught up in the middle of this. Mr Deasley was shocked at the extent of her injuries and is extremely sorry for this.”
Deasley admitted that on September 5 last year, at Ferraris, Ogilvie Street, he assaulted Katrian Juckiewicz by repeatedly punching her on the head, to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.
Sentence was deferred until August 11 for reports.
