Dundee man threatened to stab nurse 67 times

A Dundee man phoned NHS 24 and threatened to stab a nurse 67 times.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Stewart McRae, 40, phoned the helpline claiming he had been shouted at by a nurse who tended to him in hospital.

The court heard he then threatened to murder her if he saw her again, and that her actions had made him think about self-harming.

Fiscal depute Trina Sinclair told the court McRae, of Carlochie Place, made the call to NHS 24 at 7.30pm on February 22.

The fiscal said: “The accused said he attended at hospital earlier that day and a nurse shouted at him.

“He said he had 16 stitches on the face due to self-harming and he had thought about self-harming again after the nurse shouted at him.

“He said, ‘That nurse, if I saw her again I’d murder her. I’d kill her and I’m not kidding, I’d stab her 67 times I mean that, I’m not joking around.’

“Police were contacted and the accused was arrested the following day at 10am. He was cautioned and charged and replied, ‘I was trying to get help for my mental health.’”

McRae admitted that he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by phoning NHS 24 helpline and threatening to stab and murder a nurse who had previously provided him with medical treatment.

Sentence was deferred until June 25.
