A driver rammed a stolen car into a marked police vehicle then drove the wrong way down a one-way street, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.
Reece McGregor pinched the Volkswagen Golf in the city’s Isla Street in January.
He then took off on to streets in the area with police quickly turning up in a bid to halt him.
But instead of stopping, he then rammed a car being driven by PC Marc Sime as the officer tried to get out of it.
McGregor left the constable hurt and trapped inside the car as he made off.
The 23-year-old then drove round a series of streets in the Hilltown area of the city with no lights on, despite the crime taking place on a winter’s night.
At one point he drove the wrong way down a one way street. He then deliberately drove at another car.
McGregor, 23, of Bennan Gardens, Broughty Ferry, pleaded guilty to charges of stealing a car, dangerous driving and culpable and reckless conduct.
The offences were committed in the Hilltown and Coldside areas of Dundee on January 9 this year.
John Boyle, defending, said: “There was a cycle of offending at the time this was going on.
“He was drinking too much and there were other offences being committed at the time.”
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro deferred sentence until next month for social work background reports and released McGregor on bail meantime.
She said: “These are really pretty serious offences.”
