A Dundee man walked onto a city centre bus with a stolen combat axe.
The city’s sheriff court heard that 30-year-old Scott Henderson, of Brewery Lane, had stolen the axe moments earlier from a city market, along with two bracelets.
Henderson was then seen stepping onto a bus with the axe.
He has now been warned he could face prison if he doesn’t behave.
Fiscal Depute Sue Ruta said: “The accused was seen was seen to take the axe from a market stall.
“He then walked onto a bus still in possession of the axe.
“A passenger on the bus, who knew the accused by name, saw him with the axe and reported the incident to the police.”
He was traced and searched by officers and found in possession of the axe, worth 20, and two bracelets, each worth 1.
Solicitor Kevin Hampton, defending, said there was no real reason for his client committing the offences and that they appeared to have been a one-off.
He said: “This seems to be an act of complete stupidity. The whole thing is ludicrous.
“It looks like these were spontaneous thefts with no reason for it.
“He is at a loss to explain it and it appears to be an isolated incident.”
Mr Hampton added that Henderson was stable on a methadone prescription and that the offence was “madness on his part”.
Henderson admitted that on May 1 2014, at Viking Art World, Village Market, City Square, he stole a combat axe.
He also admitted at GYC Fashion, also at the market, he stole two bracelets.
Addressing Henderson, Sheriff Elizabeth Munro said: “What a piece of stupidity this was.
“I am prepared to give you a chance and defer sentencing for six months for you to prove you can be of good behaviour.
But if this is you slipping back into using on top of your prescription, you will be going to prison.”
Sentence was deferred until June 16.
