Dundee pet owners are being encouraged to use normal rubbish bins to combat overflowing dog waste.
Calls have been made for dog waste bins to be emptied more often after a “disgusting” pile of used dog waste bags was left in Clepington Road.
But Dundee City Council asked dog walkers to use normal rubbish bins for their pets’ waste.
Jennifer Davidson, who lives near the Ambassador Bar, has complained to the council, asking for more bins to be installed, as well as more regular uplifts.
The 38-year-old said: “It’s embarrassing that this waste was able to gather like this on the street.
“I complained in the middle of September and just last weekend the waste bags were picked up from the ground but the bin was still overflowing.
“It really is disgusting to see as you’re going in and out of your home and we’ve been seeing this issue now for months.”
‘Simple solution’
Jennifer, who has lived in the area for nearly 20 years, urged everyone to play their part in remedying the problem.
She said: “The simplest solution would be more regular uplifts or a greater volume of bins to stop this from happening.
“I couldn’t see it being too costly to install a few more of these bins along this stretch of road.
“If a dog owner sees the bins are overflowing, please don’t just discard it – people need to park their cars around here as well.”
General waste bins
A council spokesman for DCC urged dog owner to use general waste bins if they encounter similar issues.
He added: “We are looking into the matter and will have this addressed.
“We ask that dog owners also dispose of their pet’s waste by using nearby general litter bins or their own general waste bins in addition to dog waste bins.”
