A former Dundee High Street store is to become a Covid-19 vaccination centre for the winter months.
The old Zara outlet, at the corner with Commercial Street, will administer coronavirus boosters as well as flu jabs.
It comes following the closure of the Caird Hall as a vaccination site, where 135,000 injections were given out.
A temporary facility has been running at Dundee House, but it will close on Sunday, with the first patients being seen in the former Zara shop from Monday.
Dr Daniel Chandler, NHS Tayside’s associate director for public health, said: “I’m delighted that we are gearing up to move into our new community vaccination centre, which will be a local hub for Dundee residents to receive Covid boosters and flu vaccines over the next few months.
“It will allow our teams to deliver thousands of vaccinations in a central and accessible location and has been the result of a huge amount of work behind the scenes by many people to identify a suitable building and ensure that it will be up and running in time for the next stage of the programme.
“We’ve had a great response to the vaccination programme so far in Tayside with particularly high uptake amongst the most vulnerable groups so I would strongly encourage everyone to take up the offer of the Covid booster, along with the flu jab, when you are invited.
“Our thanks again go to everyone involved in the setting up and running of the Caird Hall and Dundee House venues and we look forward to welcoming the first patients to the new venue next week.”
The old Zara shop shut in September 2020, amid claims it had been badly impacted by the pandemic.
Who will receive their vaccinations at the new centre?
The first groups to receive their vaccinations in the new centre will be people aged over 70, and those classed as clinically extremely vulnerable will be invited for Covid boosters.
This will be followed by boosters and flu jabs for those aged 50 to 69, people aged 16-49 with long-term health conditions, unpaid carers, and those living with someone who is immunosuppressed.
Drop-in sessions will also be available for people who have not had their first or second Covid jabs.
