Mark Coutts’ plot was foiled when customs agents at Stansted Airport intercepted a package bound for his flat in Dundee. It contained a stun gun, an extendable baton similar to those used by police and a blowgun. Blowguns are most associated with indigenous tribes from South and Central America, as well as parts of South East Asia. Generally, a dart or other projectile is placed in the pipe and sent flying by the user blowing into the other end. Fiscal depute Alan Kempton told Dundee Sheriff Court: “He has no previous convictions. “He is a student at Dundee and Angus College. “The items were intercepted at Stansted Airport and the offence thereafter came to light. The items have been seized.” Coutts, 37, of Forest Park Road, pleaded guilty on summary complaint to importing goods contrary to a prohibition or restriction. Sheriff Alastair Carmichael deferred sentence until next month for social work background reports.
