Firefighters spent more than half an hour tackling a blaze at the Regional Performance Centre for Sport in Dundee.
Crews were called to the multi-million-pound centre late on Wednesday afternoon after reports that a fence was on fire.
One onlooker said: “It looked like someone had set fire to the bushes or the running track at the centre.
“It was well alight but they came along and put it out.”
Fence at running track ‘well alight’
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to attend a fire close to the running track in Caird Park at 5.17pm.
“We sent one appliance from the Kingsway. Firefighters using one hose reel jet fought the blaze. The stop was called at 5.48pm.
“A fence at the running track was well alight when firefighters got there.”
A spokesman for Leisure and Culture Dundee, which operates the centre, said: “We can confirm we are aware of this incident, but as this is now a police matter it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
The Regional Performance Centre for Sport opened in February 2020 at a cost of £32 million.
It includes indoor and outdoor football and rugby pitches, a sport science suite, an athletics centre and indoor courts.
The facility was built in Dundee after the city missed out to Edinburgh on becoming the home for a national sports centre.
