A Dundee youth football coach is in the running for a top national award.
Jim Hunter, who won the Scottish FA Youth Football Volunteer of the Year – East Region award in April, has now been nominated for the People’s Award in the 2016 Scottish FA Grassroots Awards.
Jim, 70, helped found Dundee West FC in 1985 and is the only founding member still involved with the club.
He is currently the club president and Dundee West has teams in a host of age groups from under nines up.
It recently even created an over 35s team for players who have grown up playing for the side.
He said: “I’m totally surprised – I don’t know where it has come from but at the same time I am very happy to be nominated for such an award.
“It’s a great honour for Dundee West.”
Three shortlisted regional winners from across Scotland will be entered into The People’s Award.
The nominees, shortlisted from 30 regional winners, have been selected for their dedication and services to grassroots football.
The award gives the public the chance to vote and decide who they believe should be crowned the national winner and receive The People’s Award.
The successful nominee will then be announced at the national awards ceremony at Hampden Park on September 22.
Sponsored by McDonalds, the public can vote for who they think should win the award via http://grassroots.scottishfa.co.uk/grassroots
McDonald’s head of Scottish Football, Kenny Dalglish said: “The Scottish FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Awards recognise the hundreds of grassroots volunteers who dedicate their time to ensure young aspiring footballers get the opportunity to enjoy the game.
“Without their enthusiasm and continued commitment to their local communities, grassroots football wouldn’t be in such as strong place.
“Volunteers like Jim are vital to their local community.”
