A Dundee couple have pleaded for a review of the road layout after a vehicle crashed into their property for a third time in just a few years.
Loraine and Amgad Taha fear someone could have been seriously injured after a vehicle careered into their address on Pitkerro Road on Tuesday.
The Toyota crashed through the garden wall and collided with the side of the house.
The car was forced into the property after a two-vehicle smash occurred at the junction with Clepington Road and Pitkerro Road just after 4pm.
Speaking to The Courier, Amgad said there had been similar incidents in both March 2019 and August 2020.
He said: “This is a nightmare, I can’t believe it has happened again.
“Even the police officer who attended the scene said he couldn’t believe it as he’d been on scene of one of the previous accidents.
“The Toyota actually collided with the house as it smashed through the garden wall.
“We aren’t sure at this stage if there is structural damage to the address but the garden wall will need to be replaced again.
“To what extent we aren’t sure just how much of it will need replaced.
“We’ve lived here for over 15 years but the accidents have only happened since the junction at Clepington Road was changed around 4 years ago.
“They’ve made it more pedestrianised but every accident has resulted in a vehicle coming off that junction.”
Amgad has urged the council to take a serious look at the safety of the junction and said they both fear a car could eventually crash straight through their home.
He said: “Given the incident last night we feel there needs to be a review of the road layout before someone is seriously injured.
“I’m having sleepless nights as is Loraine thinking ‘is a car going to come straight into the house next time?’
“We don’t want to build a compound here to protect the property but they need to do something now to address this.
The change of layout at the junction at Clepington Road has played a factor in these accidents — there is no question of that in our view.
“I really think we’ve been lucky here that no one was injured.”
A spokesman for Dundee City Council confirmed they are “looking into the circumstances” surrounding the crash.
‘I actually couldn’t believe it’
Loraine said she “couldn’t believe it” when her grandson phoned to say it had happened again.
“Thankfully no one has been injured in this incident,” she said.
“But given this has happened three times now you can only fear something worse is going to happen.
“There have been staff from Tayside Contracts carrying out some improvements just outside our address and they’d just finished a short time before the crash.
“They were literally working at that bit the vehicle came through — you do fear someone could have been seriously injured.
“After the previous incident last year we spoke with the council regarding the matter as we voiced some of our concerns.
“The change of layout at the junction at Clepington Road has played a factor in these accidents — there is no question of that in our view.
“When vehicles are crossing over from Clepington Road onto Rennell Road they are actually now facing straighter towards our address.
“We can only hope now the council will revaluate the situation here but it’s only happened since the junction has been changed.”
Police Scotland
A spokesman for Police Scotland added: “At around 4pm on Tuesday, November 23, officers were called to Pitkerro Road in Dundee, following a report of a car crashing into a garden wall. There were no injuries as a result.
“The driver of the Toyota car was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice.”
A spokesman for Dundee City Council added: “We have previously been made aware of issues arising at this junction, and are currently looking into all of the circumstances surrounding this latest incident.”
