Police descended on a quiet Dundee suburb after a man’s body was discovered in a parked van.
A probe was launched into the grim discovery on Thursday afternoon following reports of an unresponsive male seen slumped within a vehicle parked outside the Premier Inn at Panmurefield Village.
A cordon was quickly set up and a blue tarpaulin was used to cover the vehicle.
Reports that the death had been caused by a radioactive incident were dismissed by Police Scotland.
A spokesman for the force confirmed there was no danger to the public at any time.
He said: “Police Scotland is currently in attendance at Panmurefield Village after the sudden death of a man, enquiries are at an early stage and there is no further information at this time.”
Customers at the Bell Tree restaurant nearby said the first they became aware of something being wrong was when a fleet of police cars sped into the Premier Inn car park.
One man, who was sitting in the beer garden, said he saw seven squad cars race into the car park, followed by further dog units and plain clothes officers.
The man, who asked not to be named, said: “My wife and I had just arrived when all of a sudden seven police cars shot round the corner.
“Before long there were dog units and plain-clothed officers in the car park too.
“There was an ambulance there as well. We asked people in the hotel what was going on and all they told us was that a body was found in a van.”
Police Scotland said though their investigations are at an early stage, they are not treating the death as suspicious.
