A volunteer who has given up countless hours of her own time to hunt for a Dundee pensioner’s stolen puppy claims police should be doing more to find the family pet.
Nicky Beaton, from the popular Missing Pets Dundee Facebook page, told The Courier officers have still not interviewed “key witnesses” to the theft of Rosco.
It’s also claimed police are yet to view CCTV gained by family members and volunteers which they claim shows the suspected abductor enjoying a family day out in Arbroath.
Rosco, who was last month stolen from 82-year-old Leonard Ormond’s garden, is yet to be found despite more than one million online shares.
Celebrities including Lorraine Kelly and DJ Sarah Cox have also issued public pleas for information.
Now, Nicky, has urged Police Scotland to up its efforts.
Her words come as reports of another stolen dog – a chihuahua taken from the Dawson Park area of Dundee – emerge.
Nicky said: “We sympathise with police because we know their hands are tied in a way, but we don’t get a lot of dog thefts in Dundee.
“Someone should have been assigned to Rosco’s case.
“Police will have more pressing issues to handle, but the family do feel let down.
“I know there is a vital witness who saw Rosco in a van who has not been interviewed yet.”
Nicky feels a recent police appeal for missing cows in Angus shows officers are not dedicating enough time to Rosco’s disappearance.
She said: “The cows they found in Angus made it on to the police Facebook page. Rosco is nowhere to be seen on that page.
“Cows are taking priority over Rosco and over an old man who is breaking his heart.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said inquiries continue.
