Former pupils of Harris Academy enjoyed a special reunion dinner on Saturday in the newly reopened school hall.
Attendees at the 50th anniversary event enjoyed a tour of the new school building on Saturday afternoon, led by current sixth year pupils and prefects.
The event was organised by Roz Langlands (nee Anderson), who started at Harris Academy in 1966.
Former pupils from the school who started a year either side of 1966 were also invited to the four-course dinner, and more than 80 people attended.
An auction and raffle was held to raise funds for disadvantaged Harris pupils to take part in a trip to Alexandria, USA – one of the five cities Dundee is twinned with.
Over £1,000 was raised on the night, with auction prizes such as a wine-tasting event proving popular.
It is hoped the money raised could also provide the young pupils with a trip to the American capital Washington and a visit to the White House.
The reunion organisers thanked the scores of local businesses and institutions who contributed to the event by donating time, gifts or services.
Roz Langlands said: “It was great to see everyone having such a great time and Dundee & Angus College who prepared a fantastic four course meal did an amazing job.
“Thanks are also due to Vision Sound & Light, Red Pepper Events and MC Peter Menzies for their invaluable help on the night.”
Party-goers were joined at the event by several special guests, including head of secondary education at Dundee City Council Paul Clancy, Councillor Fraser Macpherson and Professor Ian Colligan OBE.
Councillor Macpherson said he was incredibly grateful to have been invited to the event.
He said: “The 50th reunion dinner was an absolutely splendid evening, it is always good when year groups can get together for special occasions.
“A special thanks must go to Roz and Gary Langlands, who worked tirelessly to organise the evening.
“It was very interesting seeing the school’s main social area transformed into a dinner party venue.
“I’m pleased to have been asked to attend, and felt welcomed in to the Harris family.
“The fantastic evening was very enjoyable, and it was great that money was raised for children at the school as well.
“Credit is also due to Barry Millar, the schools’ headteacher, for allowing the new school to be used for the event.”
The original Harris Academy building was opened in August 1885, and the new building was opened to pupils in August of this year.
The £31 million complex has a 3D printer, 25m swimming pool and recording studio available to use by pupils.
Other new features in the school include a large games hall, dance studio and a science hub.
The former Menzieshill High School was also merged with Harris Academy, with pupils from both schools starting the new term in the new building in August.
