A 33-year-old man has been taken to hospital after being found in the water by the Tay Road Bridge.
Broughty Ferry lifeboat was scrambled to attend following reports that a person was in the water under the bridge on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite initial reports, it emerged that the male had not jumped.
A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “We had reports of someone jumping off the bridge but the police had already called off the search before the lifeboat was launched.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We did attend at the Dundee side of the road bridge.
“There was a male in the water who had gotten into some difficulties.
“He got out by himself but he was taken to Ninewells Hospital as a precaution.”
The incident at around 4.57pm caused no traffic disruption.
