A retired Dundee care worker is celebrating scooping £2m on a scratchcard.
Sandra Black, originally from Whitfield, “almost fainted” after her husband Ian revealed they had won the top cash prize on the National Lottery card.
The former Whitfield High School pupil – who now lives in Carlisle – admitted there had been a few days of celebrations since discovering the win.
Ian, 61, had been returning home from nightshift at his factory job when he purchased the £5 Monopoly Deluxe card.
Sandra, 56, shared the good news with friends and family in the City of Discovery as they shared their plans for the cash – including an operation for their Labrador-Staffie cross, Meg, who has limited mobility.
‘We’ve won £2m’
“When I posted that I’d won on social media I think some folk thought it was a scam but they were delighted for us,” she said.
“Ian was coming home from work and he never nearly stopped for his newspaper that day.
“He bought the scratchcard and let out a scream before driving home to tell me the good news.
“When he came home he started shouting up ‘get yourself down here it’s important’ – I thought there was something wrong with our dog, Meg.”
Ian added: “She immediately thought something had happened to the dog.
“I said no, we have won £2 million.
“She just thought it was all a joke – but then she looked at the card and almost fainted.
“Sandra just went white.
“To think I almost didn’t go into the shop that morning because of roadworks. I really was so close to just driving past.”
‘Really live the dream’
Ian has already retired from his factory job following the win.
Mother-of-five Sandra said: “We are looking to build our dream home and also help our kids get on the property ladder.
“Ian has been able to retire and we now cannot wait to really live the dream and make the absolute most of our retirement.
“We’ll certainly be back to Dundee soon enough, it always draws me back.”
