Members of the group visited The Milton Inn on Saturday to present the pub with an award celebrating their achievement. Members of the Tayside branch of CAMRA visited 128 different pubs in Tayside and ranked them on hospitality, service and choice of beer. This year’s newcomer of the year was the Airlie Arms in Kirriemuir. All eight of CAMRA’s branches in Scotland and Northern Ireland choose their own pub of the year. Judges then visit each of these pubs and pick an overall national winner. This year’s winner of Pub of the Year was The Staggs Bar in Musselburgh. The Campaign for Real Ale is an independent, voluntary organisation campaigning for real ale, community pubs and consumer rights. It was formed in 1971 in reaction to the dominance of a few brewers in pubs.
