Members of the public are being invited to have their say on plans for a new office complex in the heart of the city’s regenerated waterfront.
Our Enterprise revealed plans to build a new office development at Yeaman Shore, which they hope will lead to a new “design and innovation quarter” in Dundee.
The public consultation on plans for the Studio Dundee space opened on Monday morning, and will run until November 2.
Startup businesses and budding entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to rent “hot desk” office space in the new building, according to the architects behind the plans.
HTA Design LLP hope the project will lead to the retention of young professionals in the city who might struggle to rent “traditional” office space.
It is thought office space for more than 300 people will become available if the development is approved.
Plans to build apartments in the space are also included, and the development will also house the DC Thomson Museum.
Developers hope the street at the rear of the complex could be utilised by shops and boutiques, and said they were conscious of making sure the back did not become a service area filled with bins.
Daniel Shanahan, project architect at HTA design, said: “We want the development to fit in with the waterfront development.
“We are very aware of how beautiful the Malmaison building is and we are conscious of making sure our building does not detract from it.
“Studio Dundee will offer opportunities for developing businesses to rent hot desk space on a monthly basis, and will be the first office space of its kind in Dundee.
“Hot desk office space has proved hugely popular in cities such as London and we believe there is a really strong will for it in Dundee.
“So far the response to the public consultation has been really positive, and the responses will be used to help toward the development.
“We are hoping once the consultation period is over, we can submit the planning application in by December.”
