The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after three snakes were found inside a plastic shopping bag in Dundee.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was called on September 25 after a member of the public from Ballumbie spotted the bag with the cornsnakes slithering inside at a local park.
They are now in the care of the charity’s animal rescue and re-homing centre in Cardonald where they have been named Kaa, Shisha and Salazaar.
Inspector Clare Anderson said: “Dumping them was very cruel as snakes need heat to survive and they would have soon perished had they not been rescued.
“They are all in good condition so it seems they have been well cared for until now, however, we are keen to trace the person responsible for leaving them in this way as abandoning an animal is an offence.
“If anyone recognises Kaa, Shisha and Salazaar or knows of someone in the area who recently owned corn snakes matching their description, we would urge them to contact us as soon as possible.
“We’ll continue to care for them until we can find them suitable new homes.”
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
