A man has been charged following a disturbance in a quiet Tayside village.
Police officers with shields and protective face masks swooped into the road in Wellbank, a few miles east of Dundee, on Sunday morning.
A neighbour, who lives on the street, said: “We could not believe it when the riot police showed up.
“It was like something out of a film — this is a quiet place.”
Another neighbour added: “At about 7am, the riot lads appeared and they were there until about 11am.
“You couldn’t quite believe what was happening.
“I’ve been here 40 years and have never seen anything like this.
“I’ve never seen so many police officers — my wife was terrified.”
Another commented: “It’s always very quiet here. We have never seen anything like it. It was so loud and it was very surprising.”
Police vans quickly arrived on the scene and remained on the street, close to the Wellbank Inn, for much of the morning.
It is not known if anyone was injured in the incident, although an ambulance was in attendance at the scene.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed on Monday that a man has been charged as a result of the disturbance.
The spokeswoman added: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged disturbance at an address in Kingennie Road, Wellbank, that happened on Sunday.”
The spokeswoman added that a report would be submitted to the procurator
fiscal.
