Plans have been lodged to open a temporary Jobcentre and youth hub in Dundee.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) plans to open the centre in an office building on the corner of West Marketgait and Bash Street – next to the Travelodge and Papa John’s takeaway.
It is part of an effort from the government agency to get half-a-million people across the UK a job by the end of June.
It is not known how long the temporary centre will be in place for, but the DWP says it will not impact on the existing Jobcentre in the Wellgate.
A key element of the centre will be a youth hub, aimed at offering expert employment advice to young people in the city.
The DWP is also planning a similar facility at Mercat Shopping Centre in Kirkcaldy, with nearly 200 new centres opening across the UK.
No opening date for the Dundee facility has yet been confirmed, with plans still to be approved by the city council.
Jobcentres and youth hubs are crucial to get people into work, and will help level up opportunity across the country
Therese Coffey MP
Therese Coffey, secretary of state for work and pensions, said: “We know how much people benefit from getting into work – both financially and for their wellbeing.
“And from getting any job first, they can get a better job next and then progress to a career.
“Jobcentres and youth hubs are crucial to get people into work, and will help level up opportunity across the country as through our Way to Work campaign we invite employers wherever they are to work with us and help find 500,000 people a job by the end of June.”
