Shocked diners were forced to flee after an Indian restaurant in Dundee went up in flames this evening (Friday, October 28).
A fire broke out in the ground-floor kitchen of Mint Tapas Bar and Restaurant in Perth Road – formerly known as Babu G – and travelled through the extraction unit.
Around 25 people were sitting down to Indian tapas when staff raised the alarm around 6.55pm.
They managed to get all the diners in the two-storey property to safety before the arrival of emergency services.
They watched in horror alongside staff from the pavement as flames ripped through the roof and smoke swept across the road.
One described the smell as “like burning plastic” and a section of Perth Road was closed off by police.
Four pumps attended the scene including an aerial appliance which was brought in to fight the fire from above.
The blaze was extinguished by 7.55pm but a hotspot flared up in the loftspace about an hour later.
