Police have launched an investigation after the body of a man was discovered near a Dundee church.
Officers sealed off a public footpath to the rear of Whitfield Parish Church just after 6am on Saturday morning.
Residents said a tent had been erected close to an electricity pylon at the junction with Whitfield Loan.
One woman described the scene as “quite horrendous” as she saw police outside her address.
‘I haven’t stopped thinking about it’
The 70-year-old said: “It was quite horrendous to see what was happening when I got up at around 8am.
“I haven’t stopped thinking about it, that poor man, my thoughts are with his loved ones at this time.
“The police sealed off an area just at the back of our houses.
“A hundred things start rushing through your mind when you see something like this.
“There was six police officers on the scene – I knew it was going to be bad.
“It’s still really shocking that someone has died, just heart breaking.”
A tent was situated near the pylon at around 8am
One man said he had awoken to see an officer in a hazmat suit taking pictures at the scene.
The 54-year-old added: “The tent was situated near the pylon at around 8am.
“There was a forensic officer in what I assume was a white hazmat suit taking pictures at the scene.
“You do fear the worst when you see situations like that on your doorstep.
“I’m saddened to hear someone has lost their life and my thoughts are with the man’s family at this time.
“The cordon appeared to all be removed by 10am.”
