Dundee and Dundee United fans travelling west to support their teams are being urged to avoid going near the M74 motorway.
The usual journey to both Ibrox, where the Dark Blues face Rangers tomorrow, and Cappielow – the venue for the Tangerines’ game against Morton – would be along the M80 then M8.
That remains the suggested route.
A popular alternative under normal circumstances, though, is to go via the M73 then take the M74 north, joining the M8 beyond the Kingston Bridge.
However, the closure of the M74 between junctions 4 and 5 at the Raith Interchange will have a severe impact on the surrounding roads, especially the M73, and drivers are being urged to avoid the area if at all possible.
The works have already led to Hamilton Accies’ home game against Hearts being moved to Monday night, while Raith Rovers are understood to be making alternative travel arrangements in order to get to Dumbarton in time for their match.
The measure is being taken in order to take down the Bothwell Park Road Bridge as part of the £500 million improvement scheme.
That section of the M74 will shut at 8pm tonight and will remain closed until 6am on Monday.
