A man is to appear in court on Monday after the remains of a dog were found in a Dundee park.
The grim discovery came after a three-year-old German Shepherd, Buddy, was reported missing from the Linlathen area of Dundee on April 1.
It is understood that Buddy disappeared from his home in the city’s Honeygreen Road the previous day.
It is further thought that Buddy’s owners initially believed he may just have got lost.
Buddy was believed to have been stolen
Police were then drafted in amid growing concerns the dog may have been stolen.
Buddy’s frantic owners also contacted the local animal charity Missing Pets Dundee and Angus.
The organisation subsequently carried an appeal for people to look out for Buddy.
However, suggestions were then made that something more devastating had happened to the beloved pet.
In their initial plea Buddy’s owners said the dog had been stolen from the family home on March 31.
They added: “Buddy, who is chipped, has been flagged as stolen from a family member who was looking after him.
“Looking for CCTV, ring doorbells etc ASAP.”
Remains of a dog
Police Scotland have now confirmed a man has been charged after officers discovered the remains of a dog.
A spokesperson said: “On the morning of Friday, April 1, officers were called to Honeygreen Road, Dundee, following the report of a dog theft.
“Inquiries were carried out and the remains of a dog were recovered in the nearby area.
“We can confirm a 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the matter. He is due to appear at court on Monday, April 4. ”
