Fire crews rushed to tackle a blaze in a Broughty Ferry clothing shop on Wednesday.
Two appliances were sent to Bella Mella on Brook Street just before 2pm following reports of a fire.
It is currently unknown what caused the fire in the fashion boutique.
An eyewitness said: “The racks of clothing were in flames and the staff were visibly upset.
“I couldn’t see who put the flames out but they seemed to be under control when the fire services arrived.
“I was over the road out the way as the fumes were very strong from the burning mannequin.”
Another eyewitness said: “It looked like it came from a clothes rack down the left.
“The flames spread scarily quickly through the clothing.”
Local engineer hailed as a ‘hero’
The office manager of William Ree and Partners across the road from Bella Mella hailed one of their plumbing engineers as a “hero” after he quickly stepped in to help extinguish the fire.
The worker said: “One of our engineers saw the fire from our window.
“You could see flames licking right up the inside of the window in the shop.
“So I said to him to grab our fire extinguisher and he ran across to help.
“When he got there there was already someone inside with a fire extinguisher from another shop trying to put it out but you could still see the flames inside the shop.”
‘The place was full of smoke’
He added: “The place was full of smoke, our engineer came out covered in white from the extinguisher.
“They managed to get the fire out before the firefighters came but obviously they still had to do a bit, I saw them spraying water.
“It looked like it was the dresses in the front window that were on fire.
“It’s really frightening when you see something like that, especially when you see it suddenly with flames up to the roof and with them having nice dresses in there.
“They must have caught it quite quickly.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 1.53pm to report of a building fire on Brook Street in Broughty Ferry.
“We mobilised two appliances, one from Balmossie and one from the Kingsway.
“We received the stop message at 2.29pm.”
