A Dundee doorman has ditched the pub doors after bagging TV and film roles.
Daniel Khawar may already be a familiar face to many in the city after working at establishments like Rewind on the Seagate.
The 28-year-old’s dramatic career change has now seen him being more readily recognised for his onscreen performances.
Having only started acting under a year ago, his resume already boasts credits on Channel 4 series, Screw.
The dark comedy prison series is just one project the Mid Craigie man has been working on.
With a movie featuring Hollywood star Tim Curry also in the offing, he admitted the last few months have been “hard to process”.
Career change
He said: “It has been a big change for me but it was literally one day I said ‘I’m going for it’.
“I was watching Goodfellas and said to myself ‘I can do that’.
“I started going to acting classes around nine months ago and it has gone from there.
“When Screw started on Channel 4 my mates were messaging me saying ‘get aff my telly’.
“It has been quite hard to process the things I’ve done in just a few short months.”
The father-of-two admitted it has been a steep learning curve as he tackles some challenging storylines.
One of these is the role of Donnie Sinclair in the upcoming feature film Dark Devices.
The hard-hitting script sees his character’s 12-year-old daughter being dragged into the world of online grooming.
“Some of the true events which have shaped the script are hard to process,” he explained.
“I’m proud to be a part of working on a project as hard-hitting as this as it’s still somewhat of a taboo subject.”
While the former Craigie High pupil is keeping his feet firmly on the ground for now, he admitted his ultimate goal is to reach the bright lights of Hollywood.
‘Already thrown myself in the deep end’
He added: “I’ve got a role in a horror film called Fork which is also starring Tim Curry and Anthony Head (known for roles in Little Britain and Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
“Having a chance to be a part of a project with these types of names is incredible.
“When I said at first I wanted to be an actor folk laughed.
“I think to myself now, I’ve already thrown myself in the deep end why not set the goal for Hollywood one day.”
