Abertay University is in the running for a coveted award described as the ‘Oscars of UK higher education’.
Representatives from the Dundee institution are attending the Times Higher Education Awards in London on Thursday night following a nomination for top prize of University of the Year.
Abertay was one of only six universities across the UK – and the only one in Scotland – to have made the shortlist.
Principal and Vice Chancellor, Nigel Seaton is attending the ceremony ahead of Friday’s Winter Graduation in Dundee which will see three new Honorary Doctorates awarded to leading figures in sports and music including Scottish tennis coach, Judy Murray.
A plethora of universities submitted entries for the top category, which is awarded for evidence of ‘bold, imaginative and innovative initiatives that have advanced the institution’s reputation’.
Professor Seaton said: “Abertay’s entry describes the wholesale transformation during 2014/15 and 2015/16 of its approach to teaching and learning, with unprecedented levels of partnership between management, staff and students.”
Murray will receive an honorary doctorate for her commitment to sporting education at a Caird Hall ceremony marking the achievements of 200 graduates.
Best-selling author and journalist, Matthew Syed, and influential video games composer and musician, Rob Hubbard will also receive honours.
