A £3000 cheque to Dundee Heritage Trust marks the start of local charitable donations by the Rotary Club of Dundee from the 2016 Oktoberfest.
The three-day celebration of beer, German food and live music at Discovery Quay raised in the region of £20,000.
All money raised goes to good causes, and the Dundee club has a history of charitable endeavours in the city stretching back almost a century.
The heritage trust, the charity that operates Discovery Point and the Verdant Works, was the first to benefit from this year’s festival as a thanks for their continuing support in providing the venue.
Club president Peter Leyland said: “We enjoyed a particularly successful Oktoberfest this year, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves – nearly 2,000 of them.
“Without the use of Discovery Quay, and in particular the RRS Discovery, our Oktoberfest would not be the success it is and we wanted to thank them, and their staff.
“Oktoberfest is really about raising money for our local community.
“Apart from the donation to the heritage trust the club is making significant donations to Brae Riding for the Disabled, local primary schools to assist with visits to outside attractions and Junior Parkrun, with many others to come over the next year.”
He said the Rotary Club of Dundee is always keen to enable local community groups to achieve their ambitions.
It welcomes learning about projects and would consider how it might be able to help.
He added: “This is not just about money. The club members have many skills which might be able to complement the enthusiasm of people and bring their projects to reality.”
The rotary club’s 2017 Oktoberfest, its seventh, will be from September 21 to 23 at Discovery Quay.
