A fire tore through a property on Arklay Terrace in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Officers from Scottish Fire and Rescue were called to the blaze – which broke out in a flat on the first-floor of the terrace building – shortly after 1.20am.
Five appliances were on the scene, and two jet hose reels were used to extinguish the flames.
It is understood no one was hurt in the incident, and all residents have been accounted for.
Fire fighters had the situation under control by 2.35 am. Police officers were still at the scene at 10.30am on the Sunday.
Some residents had not realised a fire had broken out at the property.
One neighbour reported seeing flames licking up the side of the building from a window, but was unaware of how the blaze was started or when it was put out.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We attended a fire on Arklay Terrace on Sunday with the Scottish Fire and Rescue service.
“There will be a joint investigation and the matter is still being dealt with.”
