Residents have told of the “terrifying” moment a Dundee house was set on fire.
Police have been standing guard outside the property on Lundie Avenue, following the attack in the early hours of Friday.
Neighbours have described being woken by the incident, which firefighters spent about an hour-and-a-half bringing under control.
It is understood no one was in the house at the time.
One resident said: “It was really frightening and it’s even worse to think that someone started this deliberately.
“Some completely innocent person could have been badly hurt or worse.”
Another neighbour said: “We were wakened by firefighters banging on our door to check that the fire hadn’t spread from the house next door.
“We were terrified to be woken like that.”
‘Thank goodness no one was hurt’
One other local told The Courier: “I heard the sirens just after 3am. Three fire engines and several police cars were at the house.
“I saw firefighters tackling the fire which seemed to be pretty fierce. Thank goodness no one was hurt.
“Police remained at the scene long after the fire brigade left and I saw forensics officers also entering the property.”
Charlie Malone, a councillor for the area, says he has been contacted by several residents about the fire.
He said: “It seems the house was deliberately targeted.
“I have been in contact with Police Scotland and Dundee City Council to find out what can be done to reassure people who stay close by.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received report of a fire at a property on Lundie Avenue in Dundee around 3.35am on Friday.
“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured.
“The fire is being treated as wilful and inquiries are ongoing.”
