The elderly owner of a 7-year-old black poodle named Rags was delighted to receive her pet home after four nights of worry.
Rags went astray around the Stobswell area of Dundee on Saturday and endured several nights of frost and rain before being found safe on the premises of Dura Street Motors on Wednesday afternoon.
Owner Irene Cunningham, 75, who has been recuperating from chemotherapy, was left fraught with concern when her handbag-sized companion disappeared.
Extensive search efforts were made by friends, family and various local pet finder groups, but Rags had been hiding out at the local garage.
“We don’t know how long she had been in there but a mechanic named Ian saw something under a car in the workshop,” said daughter Irene Stewart.
“He banged on something and she shot out towards the office, went to pick her up and the cheeky girl growled at him. She’s a wee survivor.”
“We shot over to get her. When we got to mum’s and she saw Rags in my arms, I haven’t seen her move out of her chair so fast in years, screaming and crying. It was brilliant.
“Mum is a different woman now she has Rags home. She’s very, very, happy – smiling all the time and looking forward to Christmas now.”
