A driver had to be pulled to safety after his car burst into flames on Dundee road.
Emergency crews closed Strathmartine Road following a ferocious car fire shortly before 1pm on Wednesday.
Shocked onlookers said parts of the Mercedes E250 came “flying off” as flames billowed from the car.
The driver, who asked not to be named, thanked a quick-thinking onlooker who pulled him to safety.
He said: “I was at the approach on the circle and another motorist told me flames were coming from the bottom of the car.
“He pulled me just to get me out quickly as he knew how bad it was.
“I can’t thank that Samaritan enough for what he did.”
Laura Piggot, 53, who manages the nearby Sense Scotland charity shop, said pieces of the car were flying on to the road.
She said: “The way the car went up so quickly, I’ve never seen a fire so ferocious.
“There were bits exploding off the car that had damaged a vehicle nearby.
“As soon as the emergency services arrived they got everyone well back and erected a cordon.”
Another man said he was amazed nobody was injured.
He added: “I honestly thought the car was going to explode.
“A piece of the vehicle came flying off and hit another car on its roof.
“The flames were soaring into the air. It’s such a busy street and loads of folk were gathered around.
“Thankfully the driver seemed okay, if a little shaken.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said officers received the first call at 12.39pm.
He added: “One appliance was dispatched from the Macalpine Fire Station after reports of a vehicle on fire.
“Officers used one hose reel jet at the scene and one breathing apparatus.
“We received a stop message shortly before 2pm.”
