A man has been taken to hospital after a serious assault in Dundee – with a “huge” cordon put up by police.
Officers had taped off a long stretch of pavement on Helmsdale Avenue in Kirkton.
Several uniformed and scenes of crime officers were at the scene, with photographs being taken of the area.
The cordon also extended across the entrance to Helmsdale Crescent.
It comes after the 29-year-old was attacked just after 4pm on Thursday.
He is being treated in hospital for what police have described as “serious” injuries.
The exact nature of the attack has not yet been confirmed and so far no arrests have been made.
One passer-by said: “There’s police tape covering the pavement on what feels like half the street, the cordon is huge.
“They’ve taped it off on either side of Helmsdale Crescent and there are loads of police officers standing round.
“Scenes of crime officers are also there and quite a few vans and cars parked up as well.
“There aren’t many people milling around but it’s clearly a major incident with this kind of response.
“You can still drive past but you can’t get into the gardens of loads of the houses.”
A woman who lives on a nearby street said: “You see police in this area quite regularly but it is a big cordon, I’m surprised.
“I hope everyone involved is OK.”
Man taken to hospital with serious injuries
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received report of a 29-year-old man having been seriously assaulted on Helmsdale Avenue in Dundee around 4.10pm on Thursday.
“The man has been taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment for serious injuries.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
