Dundee-based television presenter Lorraine Kelly has revealed that it was not until she turned 50 that she felt truly comfortable on TV.
Although Lorraine has been a fixture on our TV screens for over three decades, she said she become more confident since turning 50 seven years ago.
Speaking to Good Housekeeping magazine, she said: “It’s only been since I turned 50 that I’ve felt really comfortably on TV.
“There are times when I haven’t looked great. I have worn clothes that weren’t flattering. I’ve had hair styles that weren’t flattering, and I wish that someone had taken me in hand.
“t’s only been since I turned 50 that I’ve felt really comfortable on TV, and that’s because I’m getting help.”
Lorraine added: “During the GMTV days, I would pick Rosie [her daughter] up from lessons and do a raid on the Marks & Spencer and Monsoon beside the school.
“I just grabbed anything I could — it didn’t matter whether it suited me. For me, it was all about getting my job right — what I looked like was way down the pecking order.”
She said exercise rather than dieting has been key to losing weight, which has allowed her to transform her wardrobe.
Lorraine said: “At my heaviest, I was a good size 16. Now I am a size 10 and I’ve lost well over a stone and a half.
“Last summer I was wearing sleeveless tops and dresses on my TV show. I would never have done that in my 20s, 30s or 40s. I am 57, it’s crazy.
“It shows that you can do it at any age. Exercise has toned me up and changed my metabolism. For years I was yo-yo dieting, and if I hadn’t done anything, I would have just kept going. Now I guess I’ve found the size I’m supposed to be.”
The star, who presents her own show Lorraine on weekday mornings said she does not fear ageing.
She said: “I genuinely don’t think about [ageing], and that’s due to a mixture of genes and good luck.
“I don’t think I look like I’m three years off 60. I don’t feel it. If you’ve got a good attitude to life and enjoy it, that makes you younger.”
