Vandals who targeted a veterans’ home in Broughty Ferry and a minivan near the home have been branded “thoughtless and mindless”.
Firefighters were called to Victoria Road during the early hours of Sunday morning to reports of a torched minivan.
Vandals had also targeted Scottish Veterans residence Rosendael (SVR), which provides supported housing for veterans who are homeless, at around the same time.
Several light fixtures leading up to the the SVR were damaged by vandals along with a statue at the entrance of the home.
Susie Hamilton, head of external relations at SVR says the home has reported the incident to the police.
She said: “We’ll have to repair them so it’s very sad that we’ll have to spend money rectifying this damage.
“The good thing is our residents are perfectly safe because our buildings are secure and we had a night concierge on duty but for someone to carry out this thoughtless and mindless vandalism, it’s very disappointing.
“We don’t know what their intentions were but someone clearly came up our drive which is open and did this to our property.
“I believe there was other damage outside on the road as well, obviously I can’t comment on whether that was linked or not but Broughty Ferry is such a lovely community.
“It’s usually so quiet — it’s one of the reasons why it’s great for our residents to live there and they enjoy living there.
“It’s generally a safe place to live so it’s a sad occurrence.”
A spokesperson for the fire service said they were called to Victoria Road at around 2.16am on Sunday to reports of a vehicle set alight and sent out one appliance to extinguish the flames.
They left the scene at around 3am.
Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
