Excitement is building for Dundee’s first Eid in the Park celebration for three years.

The event will be held on Sunday at Camperdown park from 12-5pm.

It is a cultural event, where people from all faiths and walks of life are welcome, and contains a range of stalls, food vendors, fun activities and carnival rides.

Eid celebrations to be ‘joyous’

Kashif Rashid, chairperson of organiser Yusuf Youth Initiative (YYI), said: “On behalf of YYI we would like to invite our fellow Dundonians and Scots to join us to celebrate a joyous day of fun, food and celebration.

The festival will take place on Sunday.

“In 2019 we brought together people from all backgrounds and nationalities from Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen for a fun day for the entire family.”

The last event in 2019 attracted over 4000 people through the day from all backgrounds.

But it was cancelled for safety reasons in 2020 and 2021 while the country was under Covid restrictions.

Eid al-Adh is celebrated around the world during the month of Dhul-Hijjah. It is the month where Muslims make the pilgrimage to Mecca known as Hajj.

It follows another Muslim holiday named Eid al-Fitr which translates as “the festival of the breaking of the fast”.

Mr Rashid said: “The last two to three years have been hard for many of us. Come and join us on the day and celebrate the city’s culture and diversity.

“A special thank you to our sponsors for the day, A&S Properties, AKG Property Group, World Care Foundation, Ion8 and Premier Huntly Square.”
