A Dundee signer who debuted at the Fringe last year is to perform at a Burns’ night “with a difference” at the HM Frigate Unicorn.
Folk musician Lynne Campbell will present First Degree Burns, a show including music, poetry, discussions and drinks at the historic ship on January 25.
Through Burns’ own songs and poems, First Degree Burns will take a look at how Rabbie is integral to national identity in Scotland, and how we live with his works without knowing it.
There will be performances of old favourites like Tam O’Shanter, as well as lesser known bawdy works from The Merry Muses of Caledonia – a collection of poems and songs so scandalous that it was denied for over a hundred years after Burns’ death, and only allowed for publication in the UK in 1965.
Lynne said: “I did a preview of my Fringe performance at the Unicorn, and it was very well received.
“After that I was asked if I would do the Burns’ night, which is a big honour for me.
“It’s a privilege to be asked to perform again on the Unicorn – it’s a wonderful venue.
“I’m a big fan of Burns, and being able to share some of my favourite pieces with folk will be great fun.
“I’ve written a show that I hope will get people thinking about their own personal relationship with Scotland’s Bard and the impact his work has on us individually, and introduce people to fresh Burns works, as well as enjoying old favourites.
“My husband will do some poetry readings and there will be complimentary drinks for all ticket holders.”
