Drivers on the Kingsway and Forfar Road in Dundee are facing delays after a drain collapsed.
The fault was discovered at the junction of the A90 Forfar Road and Claverhouse Road on Tuesday morning.
As a result, one northbound lane has been shut – causing tailbacks on the main road north and having a knock-on impact on the Kingsway.
Locals are being warned the disruption is likely to continue overnight.
‘It took 30 minutes to travel 20 metres’
One driver said: “These things happen but it is causing a great deal of disruption.
“It took 30 minutes to travel 20 metres west along the Kingsway and the traffic towards Aberdeen didn’t seem to be moving at all.
“It just makes getting along there a real hassle.”
A tweet from Bear Scotland, which maintains Scotland’s trunk roads, said: “Due to a collapsed gully Bear have installed an emergency lane closure northbound at Claverhouse signalised junction.
Emergency works planned overnight
“Expect delays and where possible please use alternative routes.
“Emergency works will take place this evening and overnight to repair the gully.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “A missing drain cover at the junction of Forfar Road and Claverhouse Road was reported to us.
“It is thought that the drain cover collapsed on the northbound lane.
“Bear Scotland attended and one lane has been closed.”
