A new Aldi will open in Broughty Ferry in 2024, the discount retailer has confirmed.
The supermarket is to be located on a site between Tom Johnston Road and Arbroath Road, in West Pitkerro Industrial Estate.
Construction is expected to begin in spring next year before opening by summer time in 2024.
Aldi says it will create up to 35 local full-time jobs with the new store, next to Sainsbury’s.
The plans had hit various stumbling blocks after first being proposed in 2019.
Aldi Broughty Ferry stumbling blocks cleared
City councillors voted to reject the plans because the land is intended for business use rather than retail, despite little interest in the site for more than a decade.
The Scottish Government overturned the decision on appeal but Aldi again met resistance from the council when it rejected its application to sell booze under a policy designed to curb alcohol-related harm.
This was also overturned after Aldi took the case to the courts with a judge stating the policy was not legally-enforceable.
This finally paved the way for Aldi to press ahead with it plans and the Germany multinational has now detailed its timeline for opening.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “We will begin construction of our new Tom Johnston store by the spring of 2023 and plan to open the store within one year of commencing on site. This will create up to 35 jobs and enable local people to shop and save closer to home.”
Aldi previously said Dundee is “a key part” of its growth ambitions, having recently opened a fourth store at Myrekirk off Kingsway West.
The supermarket giants have been adamant the store is needed and say some local residents in Eastern Dundee are regularly travelling over five miles to their nearest Aldi.
