Up to 40 new jobs could be created in Dundee if plans for a gym at the Wellgate Centre go ahead.
A planning application for the development was submitted to Dundee City Council this week on behalf of Gloucestershire-based wealth management company St James’s Place.
The gym would be located at the former TJ Hughes unit on the top floor, which has been vacant for a number of years and had been earmarked as the site for a major new cinema complex.
It is not yet known how the new plan would affect the cinema proposals, which were already being “reworked” after the collapse of the Wellgate’s anchor store BHS.
Xercise4Less, also known as X4L, are the proposed operator for the gym.
The Wellgate Centre management are currently in discussions about the proposed development and are expected to comment next week.
