A Dundee woman who has died from cervical cancer aged just 31 revealed her anguish over her diagnosis just before her death.
In her own words, shared with The Courier before she passed away on Wednesday, Sophy Mitchell described the hurt and anger she felt at being told she had a terminal illness.
She died at Roxburghe House just three months after being given the devastating news.
Her statement, shared today with the blessing of both Sophy and husband Kevin, said: “If you are reading this then my amazing husband has announced my death.
“Well that’s me, I’ve gone to sleep for good. I’m at peace now, they say, but truth be told I know I didn’t feel at peace.
“I felt anger, hurt and sadness at what I’ve left behind.
“I tried to fight and fight but I’m too tired now and just can’t do it any longer.”
In a desperate plea to others, Sophy added: “Please know your body, please enjoy life, don’t moan over the wee things; book trips, take risks, do what makes you happy, laugh, love.
‘Remember smiling Sophy’
“Thanks to everyone who raised money and gave me so many good memories that I’d have never been able to afford.
“If love or money could’ve saved me then I know I’d be here.
“My life changed overnight. From working a job I adored one day to being signed off the next.
“Why me? Why? Why? Why?
“Anyway, rant over. I want you to all remember smiling Sophy.”
Sophy, from the Hilltown, had just returned from a family holiday in Benidorm in April when she was told she had the disease.
It came after months of trying to get help over concerns about her health – and an initial diagnosis of a bladder infection.
